Next generation sunscreen active ingredients

What we do

At Perlion, we develop sunscreen actives using advanced materials chemistry. Our flagship product, Solir, transforms FDA-approved components into a new class of light-absorbing materials that can block UV and blue light— without introducing new chemical filters.

What’s wrong with my sunscreen?

Sun protection hasn’t kept pace with what we know about light exposure. The efficacy of sunscreens is measured by SPF (ability to block UVB light) and broad-spectrum (blocking UVB and UVA). However, high-energy visible, HEV, light (i.e., blue light) has been shown to penetrate deeper into the skin, where it contributes to premature skin aging. No modern sunscreen formulations can efficiently block HEV light without introducing new chemicals, which require a lengthy approval process by the FDA. Consumers want broader protection, regulators want safer ingredients, and sunscreen manufacturers want solutions that can work today.

What’s the solution?

Solir is a sunscreen active ingredient that strongly absorbs UV and HEV light using a single integrated material. It delivers unique light filtering capability using only FDA-compliant chemicals and is compatible with existing mineral formulations.
